PORTOFOLIO

Green Neighborhood

Solar-powered infrastructure improving water access, education, and local economies in rural Colombia. Four communities in Malaga Bay gained access to potable water, extended study hours for children, and new microenterprise opportunities. With financial and technical support from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Green Center Capital structured four Green Neighborhoods in the Pacific region of Colombia. The communities installed photovoltaic energy systems through Colombia’s Fenoge Fund, enabling solar-powered water pumps and reliable energy access, which supports clean water availability, improved educational conditions, and the development of microenterprises such as frozen fish sales, generating additional income and long-term community benefits.

Solar Decathlon Latin America & Caribbean

Led the introduction of the Solar Decathlon to Latin America and the Caribbean, establishing a major regional platform for sustainable innovation. The initiative brought together international institutions, governments, and universities, creating a large-scale event hosted in Cali, Colombia. Together with Richard King, head of the Solar Decathlon Competition at the U.S. Department of Energy, and Rodrigo Guerrero, then mayor of Cali, Founder Marcela Huertas played a key role in launching the first edition in 2015. The event expanded with an additional edition in 2019 and has been hosted at Universidad del Valle in Cali, strengthening regional capacity in sustainable design, clean energy, and collaborative development.

Siemens Energy Decarbonization Program for the Caribbean

Launched a regional decarbonization initiative advancing clean energy transition across the Caribbean through strategic partnerships with global and multilateral institutions. The program was introduced in Costa Rica in April 2022, bringing together key stakeholders from Siemens Energy, Green Center Capital, the Inter-American Development Bank, and CAF Latin American Development Bank. Fabio Chavez (Siemens Energy) and Marcela Huertas (Green Center Capital), in alliance with Juan Pablo Bonilla (IDB) and René Gómez García (CAF), led the development and launch of the Siemens Energy Decarbonization Program for the Caribbean, strengthening collaboration and accelerating sustainable energy solutions in the region.

Termonorte 100MW Thermoelectric Plant

Secured capital to develop a 100MW thermoelectric power plant, expanding energy infrastructure and supply capacity on Colombia’s Atlantic Coast. Marcela Huertas, Founder of Green Center Capital, led the capital raise for the Termonorte Thermoelectric Plant, with funding provided by BlackRock in Colombia. This marked BlackRock’s first private sector energy investment in the country and resulted in a large-scale energy asset that continues to supply power to the region’s population.
